So you want to start a blog from scratch in 2021. You’ve been thinking about it for some time, and you’re finally ready to jump in.
But I should first let you know that contrary to what you’ve been reading, blogging is not easy.
Those people who have told you that you can start a blog from scratch in 20 minutes have been less than honest with you.
It can’t be done.
As someone who has started blogs for a living, I can tell you that with absolutely no uncertainty. When you start a blog, so much work has to go into it before it’s ready for an audience.
Blogging has become one of the most sought after ways to make money, because so many people talk about how easy it is.
But I’ve read many accounts from successful bloggers, who have said that it took them years to monetize their blogs. At least to the point where they could quit their jobs, and live the ‘good life’ on passive income.
That’s what you want, right? You want to start a blog from scratch, then in a relatively short period of time, be able to quit your job?
Well, I have some good news, and I have some bad news for you.
I’ll give you the bad news first. It’s going to take a long time to get your blog to the point where it’s making money. Those posts about making thousands of dollars in the first month of blogging are bogus. I know you want to believe them, but trust me, unless you’re already a celebrity with a huge following, it’s not going to happen.
But here’s the good news; It’s completely possible to have a successful blog, but it requires time and patience. If you have those things, there’s no question that you can do this.
The first thing you need to do, is figure out what you want to write about. If you have a hobby or some kind of interest that you could write about, that’s a good place to start.
You’re always going to have to choose a blog name, and purchase hosting for your blog. It’s a ‘non-negotiable’.
Because your goal is to make money with this venture, I’d say that using WordPress to build it is your best bet. I would strongly advise you to buy your domain and hosting at the same company. It makes things simpler in the short run.
So…the steps that I take to build a blog EVERY TIME are probably the easiest way to start a blog from scratch.
I’m not the person who takes the long way around things. If there’s a way to do it that’s less frustrating, I’ll take it.
So when I discovered something called the “Demo Download” Plugin, I was all over it.
Here’s how it works;
You know when you choose a blog theme, and you get all excited, so you install it, then activate it, only to see that it looks nothing like the theme you chose?
It can take weeks for the newbie to get the blog theme looking like the demo. Frankly, it can make you want to quit blogging before you’ve even started.
But there’s a way to get that blog theme looking exactly like the demo without wanting to rip your hair out.
Rather than explain it, I borrowed a video from a friend of mine.
The video by my friend Debbie at She Loves Nice Things illustrates exactly how you can get that blog built in record time. It’s super helpful, and it’s exactly how I built this blog!
When it comes to monetizing your new blog, I would say that you should hold off. Once you’ve got more than a few posts up, and you’re getting some traffic, that’ll be much easier to do.
